What are the options when my 401k plan administrator at my former job has not distributed my funds, after repeated requests to do so?

The first and simplest step is to send a written complaint by registered mail to the plan administrator, detailing the procedures that you have followed and your displeasure that nothing has happened. You might mention that you will also contact the state's Department of Labor or the Department of Employment (they are listed in the phone book) concerning the lack of action on your 401k benefits. Employers have a time period within which they must return funds or be subject to heavy fines. If the problem is not remedied, consult with a lawyer who is experienced in the employment field to determine how best to proceed.
