I am not in a union, and I am not a public sector employee. Is there anything that can protect me from being fired unjustly?

I interviewed with another company, my current boss found out, and fired me when he learned of the interview. (It was company policy.) Later I found out that the interviewer had passed on the information which I had specifically requested be held in confidence. Now I have no job, am short on funds, and angry! Do I have any recourse against the interviewer for such a breach?

What should I do if I feel I have been discriminated against based on an issue such as race, religion, age, gender, etc.

Are there laws that can protect me from discrimination in my place of employment?

What about age discrimination?

Is there ever a time when an employer or prospective employer can distinguish between two employees or candidates based on sex, religion, age, etc.?

I am inflicted with a schizoaffective disorder which at times causes me to have overwhelming anxiety in my workplace. It has affected my coworkers and certainly my relationship with my boss. I also fear that if I publicly admit it (and take a leave of absence), my career will spiral downward. What are my rights as far as my job goes?

Can older employees be forced to retire?
