I was fired because I refused to do something illegal. Do I have a right to sue my employer?
If your employer asks you to do something which clearly violates the law and then fires you for refusing, you would have a cause of action for wrongful discharge against public policy. If, however, there is a legitimate question whether or nor the act violates the law, the courts in Pennsylvania are reluctant to interfere with the employer’s judgment and would frequently uphold the discharge. Before refusing any directive from your employer it is important to know the consequences. You should consult with an attorney with experience in employment law.
