I was just fired by my employer. What are my rights?
Pennsylvania is an "at will" employment state. This means that unless you have a contract, your employer can fire you for any reason or for no reason. However, both federal and Pennsylvania law protect you from discrimination based on race, gender, age, religious affiliation or other specific categories. In addition, you cannot be fired for a reason that violates an expressed public policy. The public policy exception to the "at will" doctrine is, however, extremely limited under Pennsylvania decisions.
