FAQs
During my free time I have a computer consulting business. The consulting I do does not conflict with my present 9-to-5 job; however, my boss tells me that I must give it up or risk termination. Can he fire me? Can he tell me what to do outside of my 9-to-5 hours?
Can my employer require me to take a personality test?
As a sales associate, my pay is totally dependent on my commissions. Recently the company changed its compensation structure which effectively reduces my pay big-time. Can this be considered constructive termination?
I've have had facial piercings for the last 13 months on my job. Now I'm told there is a new company policy against wearing facial piercings and if I don't remove them, I will receive verbal warnings and then termination. Can my employer just enact such a policy?
My employer told me he would not fire me as long as I was doing a good job. Will this hold up in court? What if it is written in my employee's handbook?
To log into my office computer, my company is going to install a fingerprinting machine. If I refuse, I run the risk of losing my job. Is this legal?
I interviewed with another company, my current boss found out, and fired me when he learned of the interview. (It was company policy.) Later I found out that the interviewer had passed on the information which I had specifically requested be held in confidence. Now I have no job, am short on funds, and angry! Do I have any recourse against the interviewer for such a breach?
Can an employer establish different probationary periods for new employees?
