Some states have right-to-work laws. What are they and what is their impact on me?
Many states have passed laws that give workers the right to hold a job without joining a union or paying union dues. The union must still represent all employees within its bargaining unit, regardless of whether you are a paying member. Check with your local employment office or labor law attorney to see if the state you are working in has such right-to-work laws.
