How do I know if my pension is being managed properly?

You should receive financial reports from the pension plan administrator at least annually. Keep these reports and compare them from year to year to see if your account balance is increasing or decreasing. If something seems wrong, ask (in writing) for a clarification or explanation. If you aren't receiving annual statements, ask for them. If you don't get the answers or the information you need, consider seeking legal advice, or call the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, a part of the U.S. Department of Labor.
