California Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders

By: C. Edward Langhammer, Jr. Member, Cotkin & Collins

Every business with employees must post its industry specific Wage Order. There are approximately 17 or so Industrial Classifications from which employers must choose the appropriate Order. The Wage Order must be posted conspicuously where employees can read it easily. The Wage Orders regulate wages, hours and working conditions in the affected industry.  Note that these are not all the regulations; there are others throughout the Labor Code. There are also case law, agency decisions, and DLSE standards.
